Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has officially launched the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative at the Science Museum. This initiative is a significant component of the national Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, which seeks to address the digital skills gap in the country.
The project aims to provide digital technology training to five million citizens, focusing on equipping Ethiopian youth with foundational skills in Web Programming, Android Development, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence by 2026.
In his remarks at the launch ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the potential of Ethiopia’s forward-thinking youth. “The 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative we launch today is a great opportunity,” he asserted. He urged everyone to encourage youth to register for the program, gain valuable skills, and acquire international certification. He also called for a collective effort to develop a movement aimed at producing five million Ethiopian coders within the next three years.
Prime Minister Abiy also expressed his gratitude to the government of the United Arab Emirates for their support and partnership in this large-scale capacity-building project. “My greatest gratitude goes to the government of the United Arab Emirates for the partnership in this endeavor,” he stated.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative is expected to foster local innovation and serve as a beacon of hope for the continent. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates, focusing on training citizens in digital technology, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
