Job Objective
The Senior Attorney Officer is responsible for representing and safeguarding the legal interests of Shabelle Bank through professional legal advocacy, litigation management, and advisory services. This role is pivotal in minimizing legal exposure, handling debt recovery, and ensuring all banking operations remain compliant with the regulatory framework of Ethiopia.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Litigation & Legal Advocacy

Representation: Act as the bank’s primary representative in courts, tribunals, arbitration hearings, and other legal proceedings.

Case Management: Oversee all litigation matters, including civil, commercial, labor, and financial disputes.

Legal Drafting: Prepare high-quality legal pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, and court submissions.

Counsel Coordination: Supervise and coordinate with external legal counsel for outsourced litigation services.
2. Strategic Legal Advisory

Regulatory Guidance: Provide expert advice to management on banking law, commercial law, and regulatory compliance.

Business Support: Identify the legal implications of business strategies to support risk-informed decision-making.

Interpretation: Analyze new legal regulations and provide practical guidance on operational implementation.
3. Debt Recovery & Asset Protection

Loan Recovery: Handle all legal proceedings related to non-performing loans and the enforcement of collateral securities.

Legal Action: Initiate and follow up on legal actions against defaulting borrowers to safeguard the bank’s assets and reputation.
About You
1. Educational Background
-
Degree: LLM (Master of Laws) or LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from a recognized university.
2. Professional Experience
-
Total Tenure: Minimum of 3 years (for LLM) or 5 years (for LLB) of related work experience.

Specific Seniority: At least 2 years of direct experience serving as an Attorney in diverse legal areas.
3. Core Skills

Legal Assessment: Proven experience in conducting legal policy reviews or complex legal assessments.

Advocacy: Strong courtroom presence and negotiation skills.

Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex financial laws and translate them into actionable banking policies.
