About the Job
Women Empowerment Action (WE-Action) is a feminist women’s rights organization with 30 years of experience operating across Ethiopia. As a Senior Accountant, you will lead the financial operations at the Head Office level, ensuring organizational excellence and strict adherence to financial integrity. This role requires a high degree of leadership, oversight of complex NGO accounting, and a commitment to the organization’s mission of gender equality and social justice.
Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight: Supervise the maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll systems.

Reporting & Analysis: Lead the preparation of comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and donors.

Audit Management: Facilitate and lead internal and external audit processes, ensuring all documentation is audit-ready and compliant.

Budgeting: Coordinate the development of annual budgets and project-specific financial forecasts in collaboration with program teams.

Compliance: Ensure all financial activities align with Ethiopian law, donor requirements, and IPSAS standards.

Safeguarding: Strictly uphold WE-Action’s zero-tolerance policy for sexual exploitation, abuse (SEA), and gender-based violence.
About You
Educational Qualification & Experience

Education: BA or MA Degree in Accounting and Finance.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years for BA holders or 3 years for MA holders in a senior accounting role.

Sector Preference: Extensive experience working within NGOs is highly desirable.
Technical & Knowledge Requirements

Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Peachtree (Sage 50) or other computer-based financial reporting systems is a must.

Excel: Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and modeling.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of IPSAS and Ethiopian tax regulations.

Internal Controls: Proven ability to establish and maintain robust internal control frameworks.
