Job Summary
As a key member of the senior leadership team and the principal deputy to the Executive Director/CEO, the Director of Operations provides strategic leadership and cross-departmental coordination. This executive role oversees programming, advocacy, communication, finances, human resources, and resource mobilization across a network of over 500 member organizations to strengthen Ethiopia’s civil society ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Team Management: Provide operational oversight and policy direction across all support and program departments. Represent the organization at national and international levels, driving high-level diplomacy and donor relations.

Program & Project Implementation: Guide Project Coordinators through complex decision-making, ensuring execution matches project log frames, budgets, and milestones. Spearhead fund-raising initiatives and build collaborative partnerships.

MEAL Oversight: Supervise the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework to update organizational tools and document success stories.

Finance, Procurement & Admin Oversight: Coordinate with the Finance and Procurement Core Team to manage budgets under IPSAS. Lead monthly Budget Review Meetings to control spending and maintain donor compliance. Ensure organizational compliance with the Ministry of Finance, labor laws, and property management regulations.

Human Resources: Support the HR team with staff evaluations, recruitment procedures, and the promotion of organizational values.

Communication & Membership Services: Modernize internal and external communication infrastructures to dispatch critical findings, information assessments, and toolkits to network members.
Qualifications & Experience

Education: Master’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Humanitarian Studies, Management, or a related field.

Experience:
-
10 to 15 years of progressive experience within CSOs, NGOs, or INGOs.

Minimum of 5 years serving in senior leadership/executive roles.

Languages: Full professional fluency in English and Amharic; knowledge of other major Ethiopian languages is advantageous.

Core Skills: Advanced proficiency in Project Cycle Management, fund management, financial planning, and cross-cultural stakeholder negotiation.
