Job Summary
The Network Operations Engineer is a mid-level infrastructure specialist responsible for the design, implementation, management, monitoring, and optimization of OVID IT’s and OVID Group’s enterprise network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, routing/switching, firewalls, wireless, VPN, and cloud network integration). This role ensures network environments are highly available, performant, secure, and well-documented following change management and ITIL-aligned procedures. The position features both internal operations and client-facing managed services dimensions.
Main Responsibilities

Infrastructure Management: Design, configure, implement, and maintain enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points). Manage ISP relationships, WAN connectivity, and internet gateways.

Performance & Security: Monitor network performance, capacity, and availability using enterprise tools. Implement security controls including VLANs, ACLs, firewall policies, IPS/IDS, and VPN tunnels (IPSec, SSL).

Cloud & Modern Networking: Manage cloud network integration across Azure (Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute) or AWS VPC environments.

Operations & Incident Response: Lead network incident response, troubleshoot outages within SLAs, execute capacity planning, and follow ITIL-aligned change management procedures.

Documentation & Audits: Maintain accurate network topology diagrams, IPAM, device inventories, and configuration records. Conduct network security audits and support disaster recovery testing.

Expansion & Managed Services: Support new site setups, office relocations, client network assessments, and managed network service proposals.
About You
Required Experience
-
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on enterprise network engineering and operations experience.

Proven track record designing and managing multi-site LAN/WAN environments and firewall configurations.
-
Demonstrated experience with cloud network integration and network monitoring tools.

Experience supporting Ethiopian enterprise organizations is an advantage.
Academic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Skills & Technology Stack

Routing & Switching: Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Juniper Junos, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, STP, RSTP, VLANs, EtherChannel.

Firewalls: Fortinet FortiGate, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco ASA/FTD, Check Point.

Wireless: Cisco Meraki, Aruba, Ubiquiti wireless LAN management.

VPN & Protocols: IPSec site-to-site, SSL/TLS Remote Access, SD-WAN basics, TCP/IP, MPLS, QoS, NAT/PAT.

Cloud Networking: Microsoft Azure (Virtual Network, NSG, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute), AWS VPC.

Monitoring & IPAM: SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Nagios, DHCP, DNS configuration.
Professional Certifications

Required: Cisco CCNA (Routing & Switching).

Strongly Preferred: Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Fortinet NSE 4, or Palo Alto PCNSA.

Advantageous: Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700), CompTIA Network+, ITIL 4 Foundation.
Competencies & Skills

Leadership: Proactive risk identification, systematic pressure management during outages, and ability to guide junior technicians.

Communication: Clear verbal and written English; Amharic proficiency is required. Ability to create high-quality technical topology diagrams and explain risks to non-technical audiences.
