Purpose of the Role

The Tax Accountant ensures total alignment with Ethiopian tax frameworks by preparing, processing, and filing all regulatory financial obligations. Operating within East African National Distribution S.C., this position delivers critical tax analysis, supports fiscal risk mitigation, and collaborates directly with the Finance Manager to maintain compliant operational systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance & Filing: Prepare, review, and accurately submit all standard statutory tax declarations, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), Payroll Tax, and Corporate Income Tax, avoiding penalties through timely payment.

  • Audit & Authority Liaison: Build specialized schedules and background files for internal and external audits. Serve as the primary point of contact for Ministry of Revenues (MoR) officials during operational inquiries or field inspections.

  • Ledger Reconciliation: Perform systematic monthly reconciliations of all tax payable and receivable accounts against the general ledger, isolating discrepancies for swift resolution.

  • Advisory & Planning: Provide operational tax planning advice to leadership regarding commercial business choices, pinpointing legal avenues for tax efficiency and structural savings.

  • Cross-Department Verification: Partner with local Payroll, Procurement, and Sales teams to audit transactional data, verifying that supplier purchases and product distribution invoices meet strict VAT and withholding standards.


About You

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of dedicated tax accounting experience. Prior exposure handling tax frameworks within distribution, large-scale manufacturing, or logistics ecosystems is highly preferred.

  • Regulatory Domain: Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of Ethiopian Tax Laws, IFRS frameworks, and Ministry of Revenues (MoR) directives.

  • Preferred Asset: Additional tax-specific training modules or professional certifications recognized by the Ministry of Revenues will be considered a distinct advantage.

Core Technical Skills

  • Software Competency: Practical proficiency utilizing Peachtree software, automated ERP environments, and advanced Microsoft Excel formulas.

  • Professional Attributes: Sharp numerical analysis skills, meticulous attention to structural detail, high integrity when managing sensitive corporate data, and smooth cross-team communication.
