Purpose of the Job
The Coordinator, Communication and Media is responsible for implementing high-level strategies that enhance the EHRC’s image, influence, and engagement with the general public and key stakeholders. You will manage media groups, build a resilient organizational reputation, and significantly increase the visibility of the Commission’s human rights advocacy and programs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communication & Narrative Development

Brand Protection: Promote and protect the EHRC’s brand reputation and visibility across all platforms.

Strategy Generation: Develop comprehensive communication strategies that allow leadership to cultivate meaningful relationships with policymakers, donors, and key influencers.

Messaging: Create narrative strategies, including core messaging, talking points, and story development for priority human rights areas.

Issue Management: Proactively identify emerging challenges and define communication solutions to support the organization.
2. Media & Digital Engagement

Media Relations: Actively cultivate and manage relationships with the press to ensure accurate coverage of public announcements and special events.

Digital Transformation: Implement new digital tools and data analytics to build online support and modernize the Commission’s digital presence.

Monitoring: Coordinate daily media monitoring and “capture media moments” for timely advocacy.

Content Oversight: Manage content across websites, digital platforms, and print communications (including the Annual Report).
3. Internal Coordination & Capacity Building

Policy Development: Coordinate the development of editorial policies and internal communication channels.

Staff Training: Train EHRC staff on effective media usage and internal communication best practices.

Work Planning: Support the preparation of functional work plans and performance reports.
4. Leadership & People Management

HR Support: Assist in identifying human resource requirements and managing staff through coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations.

Representation: Represent the Commission in external relationships as approved by the Director.

Policy Review: Support the continuous review and implementation of policies and procedures within the function.
About You
1. Educational Background
-
Degree: MA or BA Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, International Studies, Political Science, or a related field.
2. Professional Experience
-
Tenure (BA Holders): Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Tenure (MA Holders): Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

Management: Proven experience in the management of resources (human and financial).
3. Core Skills & Requirements
-
Languages: Proficiency in Amharic and English is required; knowledge of other local languages is a distinct advantage.

Technical: Computer literate with a strong grasp of digital communication tools.

Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, time management, adaptability, and high-level analytical skills.
