Purpose of the Role

The Finance Officer supports the organization’s day-to-day financial and accounting frameworks. This position ensures accurate transactional tracking, strict regulatory compliance, and solid backing for external donor audits, keeping Geneva Global’s localized philanthropic operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Record everyday financial payments, cash receipts, and structural journal entries into QuickBooks, ensuring accurate expense allocation across specific donor funds and projects.

  • Cash & Bank Management: Reconcile monthly bank statements and internal petty cash ledger balances while executing timely payments to vendor networks and staff.

  • Budgeting & Reporting: Assist in constructing annual budgets and variance-tracked “Budget vs. Actual” analyses. Compile monthly, quarterly, and donor-specific financial statements.

  • Payroll & Taxation: Manage the internal processing of monthly payroll records. File all statutory deductions on time, including employee income tax, pension contributions, and withholding taxes.

  • Compliance & Audit: Organize clear transaction documentation for upcoming internal and external audits, implementing structural audit recommendations.


About You

Qualifications & Background Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related academic discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in corporate accounting or financial roles. Prior experience navigating the compliance landscapes of international NGOs or donor-funded projects is a significant asset.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Solid, practical understanding of Ethiopian tax structures, statutory filings, and labor regulations.

Core Technical Skills

  • Software Competency: Highly proficient using QuickBooks accounting platforms alongside advanced Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

  • Interpersonal Strength: Strong communication skills to liaise professionally with commercial banks, third-party suppliers, and local tax authorities.

  • Work Style: Sharp attention to technical detail, unwavering integrity with confidential payroll data, and the stamina to meet tight period-closing deadlines.
