About the Job

Women Empowerment Action (WE-Action) is a prominent feminist women’s rights organization with a 30-year history of operating across Ethiopia. As a Program Accountant, you will support the organization’s strategic goals by maintaining rigorous financial health and transparency. You will work closely with project teams to ensure that resources are managed effectively to combat gender inequality and promote sustainable livelihoods.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Financial Record Management: Maintain and control the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reports, and payroll.

  • Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

  • Reconciliation: Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure reported expenditures align perfectly with accounting records.

  • Budgetary Support: Assist the Project Admin & Finance Officer with budget planning, modifications, and financial forecasting.

  • Documentation: Ensure all financial reports are backed by required documentation and support project administration tasks, including procurement and project close-outs.

  • Compliance: Uphold the organization’s zero-tolerance policy for sexual exploitation, abuse (SEA), and gender-based violence.


About You

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • Education: BA Degree in Accounting and Finance.

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience.

  • Sector Preference: Previous experience working with NGOs is highly preferable.

Technical & Knowledge Requirements

  • Software Proficiency: Proven skills in computer-based financial reporting is essential. Mandatory knowledge of Excel is required.

  • Preferred Tools: Proficiency in Peachtree accounting software.

  • Standards: Training in IPSAS (International Public Sector Accounting Standards) is considered a significant added value.
