Background & Objective
The Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led, not-for-profit civil society organization registered in Ethiopia under Proclamation No. 1113/2019. Committed to advancing human rights and democratic governance, CARD is currently implementing a project titled “Equitable Access to the Internet, Online Safety, and Digital Literacy” with support from Access Now.
As part of this initiative, CARD has developed a comprehensive Digital Literacy Toolkit/Manual aimed at youth, women, journalists, and human rights defenders. The objective of this assignment is to engage a qualified translator to translate this finalized toolkit from English into Amharic, ensuring technical precision, cultural appropriateness, and clear readability.
Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of CARD’s program team, the selected translator will:

Translate the entire Digital Literacy Toolkit/Manual from English into Amharic.

Accurately translate nuanced technical concepts and vocabulary related to:

Digital literacy, online safety, and digital security.
-
Digital rights and responsible social media usage.
-
Misinformation, disinformation, and Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).
-
Civic engagement and public advocacy.
-

Maintain the original layout, formatting structures, headings, tables, case studies, and practical exercises.

Review and iterate on the translated drafts based on collaborative feedback provided by CARD.

Deliver a finalized, publication-ready Amharic document.

Core Deliverables
The consultant is legally responsible for delivering the following assets:

Initial Draft Translation: A complete Amharic draft of the toolkit submitted for internal technical review.

Finalized Amharic Translation: A polished version in an editable Microsoft Word format incorporating all corrections.

Publication-Ready Layout: A finalized copy that mirrors the original English document’s structural integrity, exercises, and technical diagrams.
📄 Intellectual Property Note: All translated materials and derivative documentation produced under this assignment shall remain the exclusive property of CARD.

Qualifications & Requirements
Experience & Technical Skills

Proven professional track record translating training manuals, public reports, academic publications, or NGO materials from English to Amharic.

Full written and verbal professional proficiency in both English and Amharic.

Strong familiarity with modern digital terminologies, human rights concepts, media frameworks, or civic tech vocabularies.

Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining localized context without altering core source meanings.
