Ethiopia ACT is a non-profit organization registered as a foreign charity in accordance with Ethiopian law. Following its Re-registration (June 2019) and all other preparations, Ethiopia ACT has been implementing its program in line with the schedule and serving communities in Nifas Silk Lafto and Akaki Kality Sub-city, who are affected by the synergetic effect of poverty and health challenges. Ethiopia ACT is looking for a finance assistant for Maternity leave coverage.

 

Employment Type: Four Months (Maternity Leave Cover)

 

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

About the Job

The Finance Assistant will keep track of the organization’s bookkeeping and accounting systems to guarantee accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in all financial transactions. Major responsibilities include creating financial statements, managing petty cash, maintaining the general ledger, and collaborating with department managers to ensure financial management.

 

Key Responsibilities: –

Ensures that all payments are made against sufficient, complete, correct, and relevant supporting documents duly verified and approved by budget holders as stipulated in the financial manual.
Collects working /program advance and makes various payments as per the authorization and approval of budget holders. (Collection of receipt and payment require going to project community centers)
Summarize expenses using relevant expense codes duly authorized by the responsible person and ensure timely settle all project advances.
Ensures that necessary taxes are collected from purchases of goods and services
Facilitates allowable provisions and settlement of transport sheets of staff as approved by the supervisor/s
Ensure financial papers and associated files are properly documented according to organizational standards.
Ensure that all collections and payments are made against serially pre-numbered cash receipts and cash payment vouchers and collect expense documents from the program staff within the period.
Ensure the safe security of cash and other related cheques in the office and initiate petty cash replenishment and monthly cash counts
Maintain petty cash fund and financial reports along with supporting documents and replenish upon reviewed by the finance manager.
Reconcile cash accounts with financial documents and collect statements from the bank.
Performs payment of expenses related to the daily operation through cash, cheque, and/or bank transfer.
Perform all other duties related to the position.
Contract Period

Fixed Term Contract for Four (4) Months -Maternity Leave Coverage (early or Exact Date from February – May 2025.
About You
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum experience required: Two years of Finance experience. Demonstrated experience, preferably in disbursement-related duties in NGO setting
Acquaintance with project funding and requirements of the major stakeholders (Govt.) is of great advantage.
Good understanding of the project implementation process.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated in written and verbal English and Amharic, including business terminology.
Excellent knowledge of account principles and terminologies
Excellent and demonstrated skills in computer systems, MS-Excel & MS-word.
Knowledge of accounting software is a must (QuickBooks is an advantage).
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
