Project Background & Scope of Work

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. GAIN works globally to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In Ethiopia, GAIN is legally registered under the Civil Society Organizations Authority (Registry No. 2896) and actively supports the national food system transformation by promoting healthy food production, local processing, and sustainable dietary practices.

To expand the accessibility of its agricultural and nutritional programs, GAIN is seeking a qualified consultant to translate its specialized Food System Training Manual from English into Somali. The selected consultant will ensure that technical terminologies regarding nutrition, food safety, and processing are translated accurately, maintaining contextual clarity and localized cultural appropriateness.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Track Record: 1 to 3 years of experience in translation, document localization, or consultancy.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluent written and verbal mastery of both English and Somali, with a strong emphasis on professional technical writing.

  • Sector Familiarity: Prior experience translating materials related to public health, nutrition, food security, agriculture, or public-interest training manuals is highly preferred.

  • Technical Compliance: Ability to deliver high-quality, formatted translations within strict project schedules.

Proposal Submission Requirements

Bidders must submit their proposals following a strict two-envelope system (Technical and Financial documents separated and sealed independently).

1. Technical Proposal Requirements

  • A clear strategy detailing the translation methodology and timelines.

  • An updated CV or company profile highlighting relevant translation portfolios.

  • Electronic Copy (Mandatory): A flash disk containing the digital soft copy of the technical documents only (preferably in editable Microsoft Word format).

2. Financial Proposal Requirements

  • A comprehensive cost breakdown for the entire scope of the translation work.

  • Must be sealed in a completely separate envelope from the technical proposal.

As part of the mandatory bidding criteria, hard copy delivery of the proposal package is strictly required. Submissions must be hand-delivered to the GAIN Ethiopia Office before the deadline on July 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM (CET). Late submissions will be rejected automatically.
