Project Background & Scope of Work

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, GAIN aims to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In Ethiopia, GAIN is re-registered and accorded legal personality with Registry Number 2896 by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Agency for Civil Society Organizations. As a key partner in the Ethiopian food system transformation, GAIN promotes healthy food production and processing across the country.

GAIN Ethiopia is seeking a qualified consultant or firm to translate its specialized Food System Training Manual from English into Amharic. The consultant will be responsible for delivering an accurate translation that maintains structural consistency, preserves technical nutritional and agricultural terminologies, and ensures the content is highly accessible and culturally appropriate for Amharic-speaking audiences.

Qualifications & Experience

• Professional Track Record: 1 to 3 years of relevant professional experience in translation, document localization, or language consultancy.

• Language Proficiency: Absolute written and verbal fluency in both English and Amharic, with strong technical translation capabilities.

• Sector Familiarity: Prior experience translating corporate training manuals, educational guidelines, or NGO publications related to public health, agriculture, nutrition, or food systems is highly advantageous.

• Technical Quality: Proven capacity to manage projects within tight deadlines while keeping formatting elements intact.

Proposal Submission Requirements

Bidders must submit their proposals utilizing a strict two-envelope system (Technical and Financial documents separated and stamped independently).

1. Technical Proposal Requirements

• A detailed methodology and work plan outlining the translation execution and quality assurance workflows.

• An updated CV or profile showcasing relevant translation credentials.

• Sample Content: Bidders must submit sample translated technical documents along with their technical proposal package.

• Electronic Copy: Include a soft copy of the technical documents only (preferably in editable Microsoft Word format) stored on an electronic data carrier (Flash Disk).

2. Financial Proposal Requirements

• A comprehensive and transparent fee proposal detailing the overall costs for the translation assignment.

• Must be sealed and stamped in a separate envelope from the technical proposal.

As part of the mandatory bidding criteria, hard copy delivery of the signed proposal package is required. Submissions must be hand-delivered in person directly to the GAIN Ethiopia Office on or before July 2, 2026.
