Project Background & Scope of Work

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. GAIN works globally alongside governments, local and international businesses, and civil society organizations to transform food systems so that they reliably deliver nutritious food to all populations. In Ethiopia, GAIN is formally re-registered under the Civil Society Organizations Authority (Registry No. 2896) and acts as a key technical partner in advancing localized, healthy food production and processing.

GAIN Ethiopia is seeking a qualified consultant or consulting firm to translate its specialized Food System Training Manual from English into the Afar language. The consultant will be tasked with providing a clear, high-quality translation that respects technical agricultural, processing, and nutritional vocabulary while ensuring cultural appropriateness and ease of reading for target communities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Professional Track Record: 1 to 3 years of hands-on professional experience in text translation, document localization, or language consultancy.

• Language Proficiency: Fluent written and verbal mastery of both English and Afar, with a strong emphasis on professional and technical writing standards.

• Sector Familiarity: Prior experience translating reference manuals, training courses, or NGO publications focused on public health, food systems, nutrition, or rural agriculture is a distinct advantage.

• Technical Compliance: Ability to manage project timelines independently and deliver structured documents within the strict project schedule.

Proposal Submission Requirements

Bidders must submit their proposals following a strict two-envelope system. Your Technical and Financial documents must be sealed in separate envelopes and labeled individually before being placed into a single outer envelope.

1. Technical Proposal Requirements

• A concise strategy or methodology detailing your translation workflow, quality control steps, and timeline execution.

• An updated CV or agency profile highlighting past translation assignments.

• Electronic Copy (Mandatory): A flash disk containing the digital soft copy of the technical documents only (preferably in editable Microsoft Word format).

2. Financial Proposal Requirements

• A clear, transparent cost breakdown for the entire scope of the translation work.

• Must be sealed in a completely separate envelope from the technical proposal.

How to Apply

As part of the mandatory bidding criteria, hard copy delivery of the physical proposal package is strictly required. Submissions must be hand-delivered directly to the GAIN Ethiopia Office before the closing time on July 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM (CET). Late arrivals will not be opened or considered for evaluation.
